foosp

Onomatopoeia. The sound of an insect hitting a car windshield. Often paired with splootch, the splatter of a bug on a windshield.

"I can't believe how loud a foosp that bug made but judging by the size of the splootch, I guess I shouldn't be surprised."

  1. This is a very useful word. I bet if we tried we could start getting people to use it.

  2. "Did you hear that Palin Speech? The foosp could be heard three counties away."

As the meaning expands to include any messy and crushing end.

A Cardinal takes a called third strike to end a ninth inning rally.
"Strike three and the Cardinal's hopes go foosp."

  3. RARELY: The sound made when a cat's paw strikes a large insect.

Used in a sentence: The grasshopper, using it's single remaining fore-limb, pulled itself along the astro-turf mat outside the back door. Fluffy knew Missus would be horrified at his latest experiment in amateur entomology but he could not let mere human frailty quash his innate curiosity. Nearly beyond reach now, Fluffy flicked out his paw and brought it down with a satisfying *foosp* .

  4. That was a good one Lori.

(I'm still ignoring the Cardinal example that Teach made).
