(n.) A bicycling racing term for the little pat on the butt given to a rider by team managers in support cars after they've imparted advice and handed off fresh water bottles.

    Possibly from the Latin "impardsum," meaning "to encourage in a friendly, but completely non-homoerotic manner" ?
